The Lindsay Literary Agency has received an unprecedented number of submissions during the global pandemic and so we are currently working through those submissions received up until 30th June 2020 and will be responding to these over the summer.
The agency will therefore be closed to submissions from 1st July – 1st September 2020. If you send anything during this time you will receive an automated response explaining that we will be unable to consider your work and asking authors to resend after 1st September 2020. The only exception to this is if you are a person of colour, in which case please state in the subject of your email PRIORITY and we will push this to the top of our lists. We would also like to make you aware of the scholarship we are running, details of which can be found here Scholarship
There are occasions when we make detailed editorial suggestions and comments but we only do so when we see real promise in the work. We do not charge a reading fee. We will always reply to all submissions, however as a result we don’t commit to a timeframe, but do our best to turn around scripts as quickly as possible. If you are submitting to other agents at the same time please do make this clear in your submission letter.
How to submit
(after 1st September 2020)
By email: info@lindsayliteraryagency.co.uk
Please send a covering note that should say a little about yourself and include anything in your career that might be relevant. Then attached in two separate Word documents should ideally be the first three chapters (double-spaced) and a single page synopsis.
If you are sending a picture book submission please send the complete story (up to 1000 words) saved in a Word document. If you are an illustrator please attach pdf examples of your work in as small a file as reasonable together with a link to any work you have online.
By post: We are no longer accepting postal submissions – please contact us via email if you have a question.
Rejection by us is not a mark of whether we think a script is good or not it simply means that we don’t think we are the right agency for your work so please try other agents and publishers.
If you are struggling to find representation, another alternative is to consider approaching a literary consultancy and one which we like is Smart Quill Editorial. This is run by Philippa Donovan who has worked in the publishing industry for 10 years, most recently as a commissioning editor for a major UK publisher. Smart Quill Editorial has contacts with agencies, scouts and publishers worldwide, they consider both adult and children’s books, and have a focus on digital too.
